I was the first to download it, run it like a dumbass, and then inform everybody on discord what it does, which is how everybody now knows.
I'm a hero, but at what cost? My discord's gone now, and quite possibly my email address.

This is what happens when, in one ear you've got people probably modding the game and showing videos of it, and in the other ear, you've got Nomaaa saying there's things in the old version of the game that aren't in the new version of the game. You want to see it all so bad, so you download what you think is an old version of the game and "Oh, it had an installer back then?" and curiosity gets the better of you.

All of my hate to hackers and shit, but also, damn, can't you make it so the old scenes are still viewable? My discord's gone because I wanted to see it

What exactly did it do when you installed it? I'm not in the discord server, so I only know that it's...bad. Also, thank you for your sacrifice, hero.

I fell for it after they posted a new game using the dev's account (probably another hacking tool), and downloaded the game without reading into it. Luckily I think my anti-virus took it out fast enough that they didn't get anything, I hope.

The installer will install itself into your appdata/local/programs, but appear to only install 3/4s of the way, making you want to run it multiple times, because you think it didn't install correctly. While doing this, it will run a couple other processes in the background. Each of those times, my discord was closed, and I managed to log back in.
After a while in which I was telling others in the discord that I think something was wrong with the Struggle Simulator Itch.io page and that it had been compromised, my discord booted me out and I got a few emails. Discord was telling me my name had changed, my password had changed and the email associated with my account had changed.
I tried resetting my password, but it now had 2 factor on it, so I couldn't. Alongside that, I had a message saying my discord and my email had been logged into by someone in turkey, and I also got an email asking me if I wanted to make a deal with them to get my account back and my info to not be sold. If I wanted my account back, I had to pay $250, if I wanted to stop my info being sold, I had to pay $250, and if I wanted bth my account back and my info to not be sold, I'd have to pay $450 (WOWEE, I'D SAVE $50)

Holy shit, that's a lot worse than I expected. Normally, they just yoink a few things and leave, not try to ransom them off. That's pretty extreme for an itchio takeover. Your sacrifice of time, mental stability, and accounts has served well to save many other souls.

Good news! I reported them a bit ago and the comments have come back so that is some progress! I am also virus free! Had it checked with three anti-virus programs and the CCC, so I should be okay!

You're not talking about the itch.io page are you? Because it most certainly has not been fixed and the comments haven't come back.

Yeah, not sure why they thought comments had come back. The hacker is still actively deleting comments warning people of their bullshit, and Itch hasn't done jack despite multiple reports of Malware having replaced the game. Really not a fan of them right now due to that.

Great, and now the asshat hacker has closed the comments section completely, probably got sicks of purging the comments warning others of the Malware. Guess I've got to try harder to get it through Itch's heads that they've got Malware on the site and should not be sitting around ignoring the reports about it. This is beyond stupid, the moment that word is said they should have jumped on it - but they act as if nothing is wrong.

Noma likely also hasn't got discord back since I'm stuck in the same boat. Discord support tickets are first come first serve basis and I was told after messaging the discord twitter account (requesting a non automated reply) that there had been a huge influx of tickets at the time and it'd be a while before ours was looked into further.
I'd also be concerned for his email address, as the hacker will likely be gunning for that too, so its best if he changes his password on there aswell.
