Japanese Monster Girls
Japanese Monster Girls
While this community seems to be similar to the furry community, it is quite a different phenomenon. Thus, it seems inappropriate to claim that it would be the Japanese equivalent to the English furry community.
Japanese monster girls are very often hybrid creatures based on animals or mystic monsters which are then (if not already in their basic definition) combined with human females. The absolute minimum is a completely human head, although it is very common to also have a human torso, and to a lesser degree human arms. The human part of the body are usually fully human, although there may sometimes be slight variation features like pointed ears, a split tongue, or a few scales on the cheek. Facial fur is usually frowned upon and considered to be no longer a monster girl.
Besides the hybrid creatures, there are also clearly non-human creatures that have a human or pseudo-human shape. An example would be slime girls, which are usually depicted as transparent, consisting of a thick slime, often blue or green (obviously an influence of the Dragon Quest game series). Other examples would be living statues, where the material of the entire body is not flesh.
As for the personality, the Japanese monster girl community has no real single definition. The personalities of the monster girls can range from sensual - sexual over playful childish up to shy and introverted, and it is impossible to claim that any one of these or the variants in between is dominant. Each version has a far share of artists and fans providing appropriate material.
Within the Japanese monster girl community, two sub categories are worth special mentioning.
One are slime girls, who have a slight advantage by being especially encouraged by the administrator of the main uploader for the community. Their flexibility also adds to their availability.
The other major faction are the naga/lamia hybrid monster girls: A snake's tail together with a human head, torso, and two human arms. Variations may have human genitals, a human behind or maybe one or more additional pairs of human arms. Pointed ears and a split tongue may be present or absent. These lamias are very popular in the Japanese monster girl community. It seems to be a very common desire to have them curl their tail either around the penis of the partner or around his entire body. This has led to the development of the code word "Roll me", which can be found quite often on their BBS.
Other common variants are eel girls (same as lamia, but with an eel body instead of the snake's tail and the ability to electrocute), harpies (usually human head and torso, bird wings, tail and feet), and arachne (spider taurs, that is human head, torso and arms together with spider body and spider legs, although distribution and nature of arms and legs may vary; may also have additional eyes). For a while, cockroach girls where also very popular, which looked like tiny human girls with insect feelers and cockroach wings on their back and a cockroach tail.
The Japanese monster girl community is quite useful for the vore community as many scenarios there include vorish scenes, even though the creators are not necessarily voraphiles. A common predator is the lamia, but there are also other common candidates like skylla, various carnivorous plant girls, and slime girls.
Japanese cat girls are usually not considered to be monster girls. The status of succubi varies - sometimes they are included, sometimes they are excluded, although the trend seems to be towards inclusion (it seems that succubi have an independant community of their own which makes this a bit tricky). On occasion, arachne can be found in Hard Vore situations, as well.
Japanese monster girls are definitely not identical with the furry community. Distinguishing features are:* Japanese monster girls are not limited to the rather sexually explicit scenarios which seem to dominate the furry community.* Admirers of Japanese monster girls usually do not identify themselves with the monster girls but rather with human males who come into contact with the monster girls and then often either have sex with them or get killed by them. An identification as is common for furries is virtually absent.
* Japanese monster girls are usually portrayed in a human world, either living in hiding at the fringe or among human society or living together with some kind of occult specialist. Monster girl only worlds similar to the furry only worlds are virtually non-existant.
