You play dead hoping the thing will leave you be. You lay there a still as you can, not moving a muscle. You hear inquisitive croaking. It feels like forever, you wait for the worst but you hear the beast turn around and hop away. You lay there for a few extra minutes to make sure its gone.
You get up groggy. You look around, you are on a gravel shore alone. You look at yourself. You are covered in dirt, twigs and leaves. You're pretty beat up too. You squeeze your cheeks, nothing comes out. Good thing you didn't try and fight that thing, you would have been defenseless.
You scope the area out. Your path to the south is block by high bluffs, however you can walk down the river bank to the north, the way you wanted to go anyways. It seems safe and you spot a leppa berry bush near by. You run up to it and eat your fill.
You squeeze your cheeks again, this time sparks fly. The leppa berries have restored some of your electricity but only enough for one or two charges. You'll need to be careful how you use it but just having sparks can scare off weaker predators.
Next, you decide to wash yourself off. The river is shallow and clear next to you. If you tried to cross the river here you would drown. You're not a bad swimmer but deeper out into the river the current is fast and choppy. So long as you don't go too deep you'll be fine. You walk in the river to wash up, it's cold. Mud and leaves wash off you and you dunk your head under to wash up. You scrub yourself down.
Just as you are about done you hear talking. You can't make out what is being said but they are coming from the woods to the river. You have to hide. You quickly get out of the water and shake off. You see a log and hide behind it, you lay low. You hear something come out of the woods to the north.
"...and so I told her, take a shower!" You hear two other guys voices laughing hard. You peek around the corner. You see three male squirtles walking to the water. They all have black sunglasses on.
"Oh Jose, you so funny," one says
"I like when you tell that one!" The other one chimes in.
The one you presume is Jose says. "Come on Rodriguez. You have that one story about the pidgy that cracks me up every time. Come on tell it!"
"Okay, okay, okay, so it was a half moon night when...." said the one that said Jose's name. You don't hear the rest of the story because you feel like the other guy, you don't know the name of, is looking right at you but you can't tell because of the glasses. You pull back quickly, your heart is pounding. Did he see you?
Rodriguez finishes his story "... and then I said, the one in my hand is going to feel like two in your bush!" José bust out laughing.
"Come on Hernando. What's your deal, you love that story," says Rodriguez.
"Guys I dun knu but I think that log got ears," says Hernando. You look up you forgot to hide your ears.
"Logs don't have ears man. That's clearly one of dem new pokemon. Logmon or somtin," todriguez says.
"No you dummys" it's Jose's voice, "that's a pikachu hiding behind a log."
"Ohhhhh," the other two say at the same time.
Jose whistles, "hey pika boy come on out we friendly, no need to hide." The gig is up hiding is pointless.
You come over the log, "hold on muchachos!" Rodriguez says clutching his shell. "That ain't no pika boy that's a pika lady and a spicy one too."
Hernando sticks his tongue out, "me like, me like!"
Jose runs his finger across the collar of his shell like he's letting out heat, "Hey pretty lady walk this way. Let the Turtle Team show you how it's done."
Should you approach them? They seem fun, maybe they could tell you how to get to Thunder Mountain. Or maybe you should just ignore them. They seem more trouble than they are worth. What do you do?
