You didn't lay out this rule before, but you can't stand the thought of getting this pidgey killed.
“Xander!” you scold. Xander looks at you, at first shocked, then he tilts his head in confusion. The pidgey also looks at you then looks at the vulpix. The pidgey squawks in fear and flutters away quickly.
"Is something wrong, Lulu?"
"Sorry Xander, I didn't make this clear, but I don't think you should eat meat while we're a team. It just doesn't feel right."
"Oh, okay, I understand. I joined you to learn to be like a pikachu, and pikachu don't eat meat; so I won't either." He smiles and wags his tails. Then he gets a concerned look, "but I think I need meat to live. Berries only get me so far. Maybe this won't work out." He gets a very sad face and his tails lower to the ground. "I-I should just…"
You feel bad and interrupt, "it will work out. You can live off caterpie, right?" He does need to eat, and feeding him caterpie seems less morally questionable.
His tails raise back up, "yeah! I mean, if that's okay with you?"
"It's fine by me."
"Great!" His tails start wagging again. Just at that moment, his stomach growls so loud he cringes over.
"Hungry now?"
“Uh, yeah.”
"Maybe there's a caterpie around here you can eat?"
His tails wag, "I'll sniff one out!" He starts searching the area. You turn around and head back to eat some more berries. Xander runs off into the woods to hunt. You get your fill of berries and head to the creek to get a drink. Along the way, you run into a caterpie hiding under a bush. It is looking over where Xander just was and is shaking like a leaf.
It looks up at you with big eyes and says, "preeee," as if it wants you to help it.
This is something to feed Xander but it looks so cute and you feel bad for the little guy. What do you do?
