"...no eating meat, except bugs."
"But..."
"No buts, if you want to be with me, that's the rules, okay?"
He looks unsure but then he smiles, "okay Lulu. I can follow those rules, no problem!"
"Good, now I don't think I know your name."
"Xander," he pips.
"Nice to meet you, Xander. Let's get a move on."
He gets up and follows you, wagging his tails. He starts spouting, "oh, this is going to be so fun! We are going to get in fights and explore and see new things and new Pokémon. Oh, oh, do you think we'll see a charizard? I've always wanted to see one. From afar, of course. I don't want to get too close. I heard they have to eat a lot. I hope..."
He is annoying you, and you interrupt, "Xander, how about we keep the talking to a minimum. You know, so nothing hungry hears us."
"Oh, okay, I'll stop talking."
You and Xander walk down the path that goes up the bluff to the south. When you get near to the top Xander stops you, "Hold up, Lulu. I know this area pretty well. There's a gloom that likes to hang around here." He places his snout to the ground and starts sniffing.
Looks like your relationship is already paying off. Xander starts down the trail, snout still down, and you follow. As you are heading down, you start to smell something pungent and sweet. It smells nice to you and lowers your guard. It must be the gloom Xander was talking about. Knowing there's a predator near, you pull your senses together.
Xander stops, growls, and snaps his head to the left. You look too and see a gloom well camouflaged, sitting in a bush near the trail. Wow, you would have not seen the gloom there, especially with the sweet smell. The smell makes you want to go near the bush but being fully aware of the threat, you stop yourself. If Xander wasn't here, you'd probably be gloom goop right now.
Smoke billows from under Xander's jowls. The gloom looks scared but remains still. Xander blows some embers from his maw at the ground in front of the bush. The gloom groans in fear and runs off back into the forest. Xander relaxes his stance and wags his tails.
"Wow," you tell the vulpix. "Thanks! I don't think I would have seen that there. You really saved me."
Xander turns around and peeps, "no problem Lulu! We're a team and that’s what teammates do, protect each other."
You smile, maybe the kit is not so bad after all. Looks like your decision to team up is already paying off. You tell him, let's get moving and head off.
You head down the trail once again. After an uneventful hour, you come to a small creek. The creek has a clearing and you see berry bushes surrounding the area. Xander’s stomach rumbles. You look at him and he smiles awkwardly. It looks peaceful enough and you tell Xander, "let's take a break and grab some berries to eat."
You see an oran berry bush nearby and run over. You and Xander start munching on some berries. You are clearly enjoying the berries more than Xander. His stomach growls and you stop and look at him. Blue juices run down his chin. He looks back and smiles awkwardly.
Suddenly, his ear twitches and he runs off, sniffing the ground. “Xander?” You whisper, wondering if he is aware of something you are not. He doesn’t respond and disappears behind a bush, you follow.
When you come to the other side of the bush you see Xander about ten feet in front of you and an oblivious pidgey, with its back turned to the hungry vulpix, pecking at some berry seeds. He is hunched down in a pouncing stance; Xander is about to kill the pidgey!
“Xander!” you scold. Xander looks at you, at first shocked, then he lowers his ears in embarrassment. The pidgey also looks at you then looks at the vulpix. The pidgey squawks in fear and flutters away quickly.
"Xander, I said no eating pidgey, remember?"
"I know. I'm sorry. I was just hungry and forgot. Berries just aren't that good to me."
You sigh, "it's okay. Maybe there's a caterpie around here you can eat."
His tails wag, "yeah! I'll sniff one out." He starts searching the area. You turn around and head back to eat some more berries. Xander runs off into the woods to hunt. You get your fill of berries and head to the creek to get a drink. Along the way, you run into a caterpie hiding under a bush. It is looking over where Xander just was and is shaking like a leaf.
It looks up at you with big eyes and says, "preeee," as if it wants you to help it.
This is something to feed Xander but it looks so cute and you feel bad for the little guy. What do you do?
