The Adventures of Lulu - Page 146 - A Pidgey's Promise - By Megaladong - Overview
You're going to reserve your shock for the last possible second. The vulpix's hit connects, flinging you and him back into the shallows of the river. It all happens so quickly. You are plunged under the water, the vulpix sits on top of your stomach and through the shimmering surface, you see a sharp maw thrusting towards your neck.

Without time to think, you panic, throwing your arm in front of your throat. The bite clamps down on the arm, making a loud crunch. You scream but all that comes out are bubbles. The water turns red around you. No, it can't end like this, can it? You instinctually squeeze your cheeks and the water explodes and crackles with electricity. You see the eyes of the vulpix go wide. His bite clamps down even harder, snapping your arm nearly in two. The water amplifies your shock making it a critical hit. Your charge fades and the vulpix goes limp, jaw still dug deep into your arm.

He splashes down in the water on top of you, pinning you to the riverbed. You struggle but you can't break free. You begin to accept your death when you think, 'not like this.' You muster all your strength and manage to wiggle out from under the limp vulpix. You are only a few inches below the water and you break the surface, gasping for air. You try and pull yourself to the nearby shore but your arm is still anchored in the vulpix's mouth. He is still alive but unable to move, paralyzed. He is floating in the river and his eyes have a look of pure terror. You try to pull the jaws open but his jaw is locked. You scream and cry and pain. You have no choice, you have to drown the vulpix, or you’re going to bleed out.

You push his head under the water holding him down, trying to pry your arm from his maw but it is no use. As the vulpix is drowning, his maw heats up, boiling the water. You scream, "PIIIIIKAAAA!!" as your arm is boiled alive. You begin to pass out from the pain but you breathe heavily and pull yourself together. If you black out now you'll drown along with the vulpix. Finally, after two long horrible minutes, the vulpix begins to drown. Large glubs of air come from his jaws as his lungs breathe in water. The water turns from boiling, to warm then to cool and the look in his eye goes from terror, to peace then to dull.

The vulpix is dead but he is still locked jawed. You use your back paw and your front to pry open his maw. Finally, it opens just wide enough to free your arm. You rush to the river's shore. You inspect the damage. The arm's bone is completely snapped into pieces. More horrifically, the arm is boiled. Chunks of meat hang off and are cooked grey. Your arm dangles limp and mangled. It's a total loss. Your journey for Thunder Mountain is over. The only question is will you survive long enough to make it back to the tribe. The good news, the boiling cauterized the wound, stopping you from bleeding out.

The adrenaline fades and is replaced with a low throb in your arm. The throbbing grows into tremendous pain. You are about to yell but doing so would draw the attention of scavengers and they would finish the job the vulpix could not. You bring your tail around to your mouth and bite it hard, drawing blood, and scream into it. It muffles the yelling. It hurts so bad you begin to blackout. You let go of your tail and begin heavy breathing, calming you down. Every heartbeat hurts, but the pain is manageable now.

You look around. The vulpix's body is now floating down the river. You turn your head to the forest and see a lone pidgey sitting on a branch. It is looking at you, cocking his head back and forth. Oh no, this can't be good.

It flutters down and lands in front of you. It blinks its translucent eyelids and peeps in a boyish voice, "you don't look so good pikachu. Do you need some help?"

"No, now go away," you tell him. Even with you hurt, he's probably too scared to fight you.

He hops around you in a circle, you limp and match his movements, trying not to let him get behind you. He chirps cheerfully, "don't worry little pikachu, I'll go get some help for you! I'll be right back. You just sit tight, okay?"

"Wait..." he flutters off before you can say anything else. Is he really going to help you? Or is he getting more friends to finish you off? You should probably just leave but you are so weak you aren't sure you could make it to the tribe anyway. Your best shot could be the pidgey. What do you do?
