Re: Dragoncon
Okay, I'm starting to get excited. Anyone have an interest not in a meetup, but in meeting up? I'm tied up Saturday, but otherwise open to blowing off the schedule and hanging out for an hour or so - getting a bite to eat, or whatever.

A bite to eat? Oh my, 4ofSwords. Are you trying to stuff your fellow forum users down your throat!?

I am interested to see how the procedures for getting a guest badge differ from that of you hoi polloi.

Of course. I live right outside of atlanta so i attend almost every year. This might be the last time for a while that I do all four days though. They hiked the price up again and the preregistration is getting too procey for my blood. Might have to just do single/double day passes next year.

Well, since EP has earned a gold star by seeing through my nefarious ploy, I put an up-to-date picture up on the "what do we look like?" thread. If you see some guy who looks like this: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=777&p=2100089#p2100089 running be hotels like the straight-super-A nerd afraid not to be fifteen minutes early for classes, then BEWARE! (Or you can say hi, but you take your fate into your own hands!)

Flight leaves at 10 AM. I am too hyped to contain it anymore. Didn't do any costumes this time despite debating it last year. Never enough time~

Re: Dragoncon
I wish I could show off my costumes here, but I'm way too private. I'm super excited, though! I doubt I'll be able to sleep until Friday~~~

Re: Dragoncon
How did you your Guest-badge-getting go, by the way? I walked straight into the Sheraton on Friday at 9:15a, and walked back out with a badge before 9:20a. It was actually kind of disorienting.
But I liked it.

Re: Dragoncon
Well, I wandered around the Sheraton asking everyone I saw where to go to get my 'professional' badge, and got kicked around like a complicated hockey puck until one of the long-time volunteering graybeards overheard and directed me to the VIP registration room in the Marriott. Pretty swanky!

Re: Dragoncon
Sounds it! You didn't even have to leave the real hotels or slum it with we Alt History/Urban Fantasy folks. Except you did, but now you know for next year!

Re: Dragoncon
True! We'll see if they want me back next year, but I think they will since the panels I was on seemed well regarded and standing-room-only. Of course, that's true of most of the sessions at the con...
Seriously, I think they've again hit their size limit. Adding more hotels is no longer an effective way to cope with overcrowding, as anyone in the Marriott on Saturday night can tell you. Distasteful as it'd be, I think they have to start looking at attendance caps, because adding another few thousand every year is not sustainable.

Re: Dragoncon
Speaking of Alt History, I thought it was really sad (not in a "shame on you con-goers" kind of way, but just kind of a disappointing turn of events), that Harry Turtledove was the literary guest of honor, but his panel didn't even draw enough people to fill the first two rows in the Regency room. It meant good seating for me! But still.
