Coloring Techniques

Postby ukesilkeris6 » Mon Aug 17, 2020 5:41 am

I am going to have to make this quick, but I use Adobe Illustrator for my art and I find that when I upload it, the color differs. It fixes only when you zoom in on the work. Does anybody get this problem and is it because I use CYMK instead of RGB?

In addition to that, I just wanted to generally know how people go about coloring in any work they make as it would greatly help me with my own art. I'm also curious and want to know benefits of different methods. Currently I use the live paint bucket, using the pen tool to then add highlights and different tones. I sometimes Gaussian blur some bits or recently, bring it into Photoshop to use the dodge and burn tool.

I don't use Adobe Illustrator but some color problems I've run into usually involve screen calibration. Different monitors tend to differ in their representation of different colors. This can also occur between different operating systems as well. If you're checking your uploads on different devices and noticing that the colors are different, one of these is probably your issue.

Again, I don't use Adobe Illustrator (which is for making vector graphics if I recall?) but as far as coloring techniques go, I usually do a simple flat color layer after I finish lineart, then make new color layers for smaller details and color variations. After that comes a layer or two dedicated to shading. At the end I clean up the edges so everything fits within the lineart.

My experience with the paint bucket in my program (Krita) hasn't been good and usually leaves unclean edges. So I just use a big brush and paint in a layer under the lineart.

I don't know how well Eka's system handles vector art but if you can't solve the problem and it only persists on this site, you might can try asking Eka.

Good luck with your future art and I hope you can get your problem fixed! :D

Cheers!
