Cartovore 2.15

Postby Duamutef » Tue Jul 31, 2007 12:41 am

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this one will run.

Someone kindly sent me the files they were using and that revealed some of the styewpid, inexplicable crash bugs.

This might also fix the problem some people were having with the game stopping after you try to make a character...I'm not sure. The program is being kind of retarded and I'm a bit brain-dead right now.

Anyway...give it a shot and hopefully it won't give you AIDS.

I don't wish to complain, but why does the download take so long? At the rate it's going it will take several days to download. And no, that is not an exaggeration.

All that's on the page is 2.11 and a patch of 2.12 to 2.14. Where is the actual download link? Also, is there any patch notes included?

With regard to my downloading difficulty, I ran some tests and found that I had no trouble downloading files of a similar size from file sharing sites (mediafire and its ilk). Would you consider uploading the file to one of these sites? I know it's more work for you, but I want to play! :(

I was noting that even though cards like 'Sandy Sailheart' had 'mana generation' their mana never seemed to 'generate'. It would always cap out at 4 mana. Is that how the game is supposed to win (Because now I cannot win no matter how hard I try!)

I figured out what was going on, and now know how to play (luckily). I had to re-install the game!

Resources don't accumulate; your mana generation is how much you can use in one turn. The way you get more is by playing character cards. If a character card has mana generation, it will add directly to your own.

That's also the quickest way to get more gold. Your gold production increases by 1 for each character you control that is a member of your faction.

That is what Villagers are good for. They are cheap, have resource production, and are aligned with every clan, so you can bring them out to quickly ramp up.

The disadvantage, of course, is that they're practically a free meal and won't last longer than a few turns...

There are other cards which increase your main character's resources directly as well, but you get the most bang for your buck overall with character cards since they can also attack, absorb damage, and so forth.

Goldraiser increases gold production by 2 and only costs 3 gold, which is even quicker most of the time.

For gold, yes. But Goldraiser won't stop an enemy who is charging at you with a sword, whereas a character will.

Is this, then, the still-latest/greatest version of Cartovore 2? I was looking over Dua's Universe website and saw that 2.14 was the most recent listed there.

I don't see 2.15 anywhere, either, and the version I downloaded from the link is busted. Opening any of the card lists in the editor results in a bad runtime error '52' and terminates the program. Also, after trying to delete all the files and reinstall, the empty "Cartovore 2" folder is now locked and protected, and can't be deleted. I have show hidden files on, and the directory has nothing in it, but the folder still says it's using up ~800kb and is denied access.

I'm thinking that this is some kind of joke. http://www.sdcga.com/~duam9/cartovore2.htm I see no 2.15 linkage there.
