Re: Amanda's batty guide to play (fix) voregames under Vista
simple solution....don't install Vista
it's not a required platform
it's not even gaming friendly.....stick with XP........never trust an OS that's full of DRM tech.....Vista is bad.....simple

Well, I don't have Vista or plan to get it for some time (if they work the bugs out, maybe), but I just wanted to say that it's really cool that you would take the time to help those that did get it

Ive been using Vista for quite some time now, and its like the most stable, secure and best working Windows I have every used. Its maybe as far ahead of XP than XP was of 98... almost every feature is so overhauled you just can blink... ^^
But well, I did this so people can play their favorite games, not to make commercials for an OS... ^^

XP forever! Plus I've heard Vista causes havoc with video files and I'm a film student!
Who were you expecting?

Thank you Amanada for the information. I will include a .jar in the next chapter. Also, I heard that the version 5 of Java is not working well with Vista. I suggest that peoples install the version 6 or better of Java on their computers.

Vista destroys everything it touches. The software company I work for is scrambling to figure out all of the stuff it's sodomizing and throw out fixes to confused and upset customers.
It's like Windows ME all over again.
I should just switch to Python or some shit and write for Linux.

Yeah, but it'd be in Python.

Now that's a move I would support. Messing with Wine and Cedega is always such a hassle, and dual-booting is not ideal either... Maybe I should try vmware or Zen...

Yeah, but it'd be in Python.
That would be the point now, wouldn't it? Python is a great language in my humble opinion. If it's not used for a complete game engine. Pretty neat for scripting. But anything cross-platform would do it, I'd just like to see running this game on my computer.

Re:
It'd have to be for the whole game engine. I've written a simple scripting language of one kind or another for every game I've ever made (with the exception of the MMF games), but I don't have the knowledge to write something as complex as a Python interpreter.
Granted, I could get a book and learn in two days, but if I'm not going to use Python as the game engine, there's little point in using it at all.
The idea, however, would be to use OGRE; specifically, PyOGRE. However, I lack experience in 3D programming, and I am not certain that it is wise to tackle both a new platform and a new game type at the same time. If nothing else, it would vastly decrease the development time if I stuck with Visual Basic, but it is true that VB is compatible with just about nothing.
Other things are being considered according to how much time and complexity they can save...the big three are Truevision 3D with Visual Basic, 3D Gamestudio, and PyOGRE.
Well, out of the 3D options. There are 2D options in MultiMedia Fusion and in Flash.
Basically, VRPG 2 could end up being a hell of a lot of different things at this point. My research has yielded lukewarm results in each language. MMF would have filesize problems, Flash would have a very complicated program structure, Gamestudio has a very limited scripting language that I'd have to deal with, PyOGRE requires that I learn both Python and OGRE, and TV3D and VB, while the quickest and easiest option, will run on the least machines.
They'd also be very different styles of game.
PyOGRE and TV3D/VB would be about the same--a sort of single-player World of Warcraft with vore in it.
Gamestudio would, by necessity, be a more action-oriented type with a less rich character development system and, quite probably, inferior vore.
MMF would be like a cross between the 2D platformers of the past and the 2D brawlers (Think a cross between Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Knights of the Round on the SNES, only with a lot more spells, stats, skills, crafting and all of that shit. Oh, and vore).
Flash would be like a version of Dragonfable that didn't suck quite so bad. And had vore.
All would have fairly long development times anyway...and I want the engine and art assets to be usable for non-vore projects, so that's a concern as well...
So you can see that the decision is complicated. I've got to weigh gameplay, development, reusability, and all of that other crap all at once...

I recently got this new computer (that had Vista already on it)
and I've tried to download what you said to get but without any luck
every time i try to install the second file it says "MSVBVM50.DLL was not found"
then when i try to run the registry program FLATBTN.OCX is missing or corrupted... I guess I'm still panicking... Can anyone help with updated links or somthing to programs that can help?

Search for "Microsoft Visual Basic Runtimes and install version 5.0 of it.
