“Athilia! Are you alright?” Thikanta exclaimed like a concerned friend. She lowered herself down next to the new lamia before continuing, “I’ve been so worried. What’s the last thing you remember?”

"I don't remember anything...what happened?" said the lamia. She shook her head as if to shake off the confusion. The truth was, she hadn't even remembered her name. Good thing there was someone here who could tell her what it was- Athilia. "I feel so confused....and so very, very hungry..." she said. It felt as if she hadn't eaten in days.

“I was afraid you wouldn’t… It looked like your head got hit pretty hard. You’ve been unconscious for a while now.” Thikanta said sympathetically. “I guess I’d best tell you what I can. My name is Thikanta, we were… very good friends back home in the jungle. A bit ago some humans from a far away land captured us then brought us to a place near here, that was when I saw you get hit in the head. I, convinced a human to help us escape, we carried you along with us here to where we could hide out. The human went back to cover up any trail we might have left behind.”

“But I wouldn’t trust this human.” She continued, lowering her voice conspiratorially, “Since you were out cold that whole time he’ll probably act like you weren’t here before to try to get you to follow him into a trap or something.”

"Why are we tolerating the presence of a human in the first place? The only thing the males are good for is food. Maybe we need to teach this man a lesson about his place in the food chain."

She was hungry and her abilities as a predator were hard wired into her new form. Maybe she'd be useful in teaching the doctor a lesson. After all, Jenkins had no idea there were two of them now. It sounded like the makings of a perfect trap for the human.

"So, what do you think, Thikanta? Do you want me to take care of this man for you? It sounds like he would be useful for satisfying my hunger."

“That sounds like a wonderful idea.” Thikanta said with a smile. She was pleased Athilia was taking her new life so well and was so eager to deal with the human from the lab. Once he was dealt with, there would be no one to intrude upon her and her new companion.

The next day Dr. Jenkins set out early for the caves. He hoped that Thikanta was settling in well. He's spent more of the previous day being debriefed by various levels of security. But his alibi held and they didn't seem to suspect he had helped the lamia escape.

Upon arriving at the cave, he notices the remains of a recent campfire. There were no sign of any campers, however. He wondered if Thikanta had already taken some more victims. He decided to remain outside the cave and call for her. The inside of the cave was dark and there were too many places for her to hide. He knew better than to allow her to be taken by surprise.

"Thikanta...it's Dr. Jenkins. I'm here to ask you some more questions. I'd like you to meet me at the cave entrance please..."

The two lamias had spent hours planning out many possible ways to take care of the human from the lab before finally turning in for the night.

They later awoke to his voice coming into the cave. Thikanta gave Athilia a quick explanation of the device he had that translated speech as to why they could understand him before saying, “{Alright, I’ll make sure he’s good and distracted. Once he’s facing away from the cave, you strike.}”

“{Right. Good luck Thikanta.}” Athilia said eagerly. She hesitated a second before giving Thikanta a quick kiss on the cheek.

Thikanta was surprised, but not upset, by the display of affection. She slithered out of the cave into the morning light. “{Did you have to come so early?}” She groused to the man, stretching her arms and slithering off to her right where a sunnier spot was conveniently located.

Dr. Jenkins was pleasantly surprised with how at ease Thikanta seemed with her surroundings. She emerged from the cave to greet him with her full length. Granted, he knew her hypersensitive sense of small could alert her to anyone else nearby and allow her plenty of time to hide. She also seemed in a relatively good mood, which as also a welcome change. Perhaps now she'd be more cooperative and the two of them could learn to trust each other.

He thumbed his phone to activate the translator. “So..I see there was a recent campfire here. Am I to assume you had some interaction with the campers?” He looked at her snake portion searching for any bulges. But her coils were so thick that ingesting a human wouldn't be clearly visible anyway. “In any case, you did a nice job cleaning up and hiding their belongings. Good for you.”

She stretched and found a sunny spot, likely trying to warm herself. She was indeed an exquisitely beautiful creature. The morning sun made her coils glisten as if wet, showing off their spectacular color. “You know, Thikanta, you really are a perfect specimen. I wish I were able to show you to the world rather than keep you hidden. Maybe...maybe some day that will happen.”

“{I’d rather not be displayed like some kind of trophy, thank you.}” Thikanta said. She contemplated the sunny spot for a moment, then continued along to a nearby stream to get some water. The water was cold as ice, but it was enough. She then moved to another sunny spot, closer to the direction the man had come from and coiled up in it. It was about the best she could do to get him facing away from the cave, much more and he’d probably get suspicious.

“{So, what do you want today?}” She asked, keeping her eyes away from the cave mouth from which Athilia would emerge soon enough.

"What do I want? Well it's just to see how you've acclimated to your new home. I don't intend to start any major research on you till things settle down a bit back at the lab."

Jenkins kept his eyes on her, always wary of meeting her own directly though she hadn't yet tried anything deceptive. Perhaps she had accepted her situation? He thought to himself. He had no reason to worry about keeping his eyes on the cave, where Athilia was waiting for the right moment to pounce on him.

“{It’s alright.}” Thikanta said with a shrug as she coiled up in the sunny spot. “{It’s not the jungles of home, obviously, but it’ll do.}”

Athilia watched as Thikanta drew the human’s attention from the cave mouth. Once Thikanta had coiled up, Athilia silently emerged from the cave. She paused for a moment, waiting to see if the man had noticed her.
When he did nothing she pounced from behind. One hand came up to cover his mouth, to prevent him from screaming. Her other arm wrapped around his as her tail coiled around his legs and worked its way up. “{When you said he would act like I wasn’t here, I didn’t think he’d be so oblivious.}” She said to Thikanta with a smile, who simply smiled back at her.

He was completely taken by surprise as he was grabbed from behind. Small hands covered his mouth preventing him from crying out as he saw the coils- shiny and black- begin to wrap around his legs. In a matter of seconds they covered his body, completely immobilizing him. With wide eyes he looked a Thikanta. He immediately assumed- incorrectly- that she'd somehow made contact with another of her kind who was living in the forest here. He'd never bothered to consider that possibility, and he realized it was likely going to cost him his life. He couldn't turn around to look at the lamia who caught him, nor could he question her as she had her hands pressed tightly over his lips so he couldn't speak. So he waited, hoping that Thikanta would spare him or at least allow him to defend himself. He had so many questions and realized he'd likely never have the answers to any of them.

“{Feel free to have some fun with him first. Like you said last night, he needs to be taught his place.}” Thikanta said, her smile turning wicked.

Athilia giggled sinisterly as she started squeezing her captive. She wouldn’t play with him for too long, her stomach was yearning to be filled with the tasty human she had in her coils.

"No...please!" was all he was able to say before Athilia began tightening her coils. She would tighten and hold the pressure till he was seconds from passing out, then allow him enough breath to recover. Then the process would repeat. Athilia was already perfect at sensing both his heartbeat and breathing, never squeezing hard or long enough to cause and permanent damage. He wanted to beg her- to plead for his life- but he never had enough breath to speak. And he could hear her giggling with amusement as she tortured him as Thikanta watched, smiling. In the back of his mind he still wondered where the black lamia had come from. But he realized the answers didn't matter much now.

Thikanta was quite content to watch Athilia play with the human. Once Athilia ate him there would be no one who knew she was out here, she’d truly be free and anyone who did find them could be taken care of easily. And she was looking forward to spending that time with Athilia; the new lamia was taking to her new life so well, so eagerly.

“{Alright, I can’t let my poor tummy wait any longer.}” Athilia finally said as she lifted her victim off the ground and orientating him to slide more easily into her now gaping maw.

"You can't eat me! I'm the only hope that you two have of staying safe!"

She lifted him with ease over her head and her jaw began to unhinge. Dr. Jenkins watched this with horror. Would Thikanta intervene? He remembered watching the guard's final struggled inside Thikanta's gut. In a few minutes that would be him- struggling in vain until either he suffocated or the digestive acids killed him.

"Thikanta....please! I beg you! Don't let her do this!"

Thikanta made no move to stop Athilia. Her only response to the man’s pleas was to smile, with a slight sadistic edge to it, and give him a little bye-bye wave as she watched him descend towards the other lamia’s waiting maw.

Eager as she was, Alithia didn’t take much time tasting her victim. It was just a few licks here and there before swallowing him further in then repeating the process.

Of all of the ways he'd imagined dying, Dr. Jenkins had never considered being eaten alive. He'd seen plenty of snakes devour their prey, and he'd never thought about how it felt. Now he knew. The sense of utter helplessness and despair was overwhelming. Even worse, this serpent had swallowed him feet first and alive. Most snakes at least rendered their prey blissfully unconscious first.

Thikanta continued to smile as if she were truly enjoying his imminent demise. He'd hoped that perhaps there was some human in her nature to appeal to. But if she had any vestige of a conscience he hadn't found it. He was inside her up to his waist now, and could feel her relentless muscles drawing him downward. He'd never even gotten a good look at the new lamia. He wondered if she was a as beautiful as Thikanta was.

Finally accepting his fate he stopped pleading for his life. He relaxed his body and allowed himself to be drawn in. He glimpsed the sun one last time as his head slipped inside her throat and her jaws closed. It was immediately hard to breathe and the air that was present was noxious, burning his lungs. He struggled involuntarily, but her powerful muscles held him virtually immobile. In little more than a minute he grew still within her belly as blissful oblivion took him.

Thikanta slithered over to Athilia and guided the happy, full lamia to one of the larger patches of sunlight and they coiled up together, their tails wrapping around each other. Their human halves cuddling close.

“You know what this means, right?” Thikanta asked, “He was the only one who knew we were here. With him gone, we’re completely free. There’s no one out there who knows we’re here to send warriors to hunt us.”

Athila belched softly and smiled at Thikanta. "That was possibly the most satisfying meal I've ever had. Not that I can remember any of them. I'm not sure what that man did to me, but I still can't remember anything. But I'm assuming he was foe rather than friend."

The newly formed lamia followed Thikanta to their basking spot. "Hunt us? He was a bad man after all. Why would anyone hunt us? We're the hunters, after all!" Athilia coiled up contentedly, her body entwined with that of her friend. She yawned and quickly began to doze as she started to digest the doctor, who had finally stopped his squirming.
