Re: What Causes this fetish?

Postby Xali » Fri Jun 05, 2020 12:18 pm

This thread has popped up quite a few times but no harm in asking anew.

It is generally accepted in psychology that some sexual fetishes are acquired through exposure or formative experiences, and some are more innate. Anecdotally, from my own experience and past threads and discussions like this, vore seems to be very far to the 'innate' end of the spectrum. Personally it seems like it preceded almost any interest in anything else sexual and this has been a pretty common experience from what I recall reading. Even though it is a shocking fetish and very far from the mainstream, I think it shouldn't be regarded as so surprising considering that food metaphors are all over the place in "normal" erotica and pornography and sexual desire has been analogized to hunger for pretty much all of recorded history.

I don't think even the most extreme kinds of vore are that surprising - vore with digestion, fatal, perma, that type. While it's true that there's no getting around the fact that the eroticization of mortal peril and death are disturbing, even to those who enjoy it, it is also true that one doesn't have to look very far to find softer, less overt representations of that same theme in popular media. When's the last time you saw a slasher movie where the overwhelming majority of the victims weren't attractive young people?

It is pretty interesting, but i don't think it's been studied in any formal way.
To add to the anecdotes, in my case i think it was innate, like i was just born this way. I remember being a kid, like maybe 6 or 7 years old, and being absolutely enraptured when i watched a python swallowing whole animals on a nature show. Like it made my heart rate speed up and everything, i remember how visceral the reaction was. I was too young to be sexually aroused, but of course later on this reaction morphed into that.
In order for that sight on that nature show to trigger this reaction to begin with, it seems like this fascination with predator/prey would have to have already been present. Maybe it's just basic instinct manifesting itself from millions of years of living in an untamed world where our ancestors were actually at risk of being eaten, and that built in reaction is closer to the surface and thus more potent for some of us and seeing something at a young impressionable age that triggers it flips our switch.

Food chain survival and sexual need are both very fundamental instincts hardwired into us, so it's not really too incredible to believe they can become crossed i think

So, I have a few observations on this. Though I never finished my degree, I was attending school for psychology for three years. None of this is hard science, and I'll be upfront that this is mere conjecture, but there's a few notions that stick out to me.

Vore is a multifaceted fetish. There's sometimes a fatal element-- Theros and Eros being the twin drives that supposedly rule humanity, fear of death, and love and lust. There's an element of power exchange-- someone who could eat you instead of hearing you out is not equal to you, which plays into the Dom/sub dynamic. There's an element of degradation-- being treated as food, or meat, or nutrients and not a living breathing person or what-have-you. When same-size, vore features supernormal stimuli, the engorged stomach evoking pregnancy, or the well-fattedness that only came with successful hunting and gathering when we hadn't worked out how to gather in groups greater than 100 without murdering each other. When micro-macro, it is all of the above to the extreme.

Frakass once, long ago, posted something to the effect of "I think my fetish for girls eating cities comes from some childish instinct, when faced with the idea of Godzilla, or the Blob, or the Pod People... to replace the monster with something much less scary-- cute girls." I'm not much of a prey, though I've been around long enough to clearly be an observer-- to me, my vore kink came from that same childhood fear of the monsters-- and a desire to show those bullies what they're doing to people. The "puerile coping mechanism" for me, is... the Blob is scary, unless it's me, like the Simpsons homage to the Blob, where it's Homer... then, then it's fun.

On the other end of the spectrum-- as a dom, as a pred, as a rather rotund person who doesn't mind it past a point-- all of those points I made from a certain perspective are still true. Turning someone into your fat, muscle and waste is the ultimate power exchange. No dom/sub dynamic or equivalent comes close to the level of exchange presented in these fantasies-- the most perfect metaphor for letting your existence hang in someone else's hands, and letting them use you as they like.

I have no idea if this is true, but I heard that it might stem from a strong desire to permanently escape loneliness.

Well, I don't have any solid proof or facts about other people and what event caused vore to be there fetish but I know for me it isn't the fatality that drew me to it, it was more of having no control and just being dominated by a bigger person but ultimately protected by your predator, You know it's funny I remember I was like thirteen and I started searching up wrestling video's on youtube which leads to searching up more risque things like forced armpit smelling or things of alike. However, I do understand where your coming from there have been multiple times in which I tried to deny myself from reading or watching vore because it felt "wrong", I usually could go for a week before I fell back to my old habits and I decided at a point to just accept this wasn't gonna change but that doesn't mean you should shout it out to your neighbors, just accept the pleasure you get from it but don't let it control life or your relationships.

This comes up every once in a while. My assertion is that people with certain fetishes tend to just have a better, "freer", imagination than most. They can find enjoyment in more things, and aren't afraid to explore certain thoughts, particularly ones with some kind of loose, sexual trigger, in great depth. They tend to be creative and less inhibited, at least in their thoughts.

What "causes" this fetish? You'd have to be more specific. What aspects of vore are most appealing to you? Once you answer that, you can usually make obvious connections right away - and, surprise, almost all of them are normal and healthy; they're just "misfirings" of other instincts in some combination; you've just reassembled them into a coherent story.

Dominance and submission are common themes here. If you're turned on by the idea of being eaten by a snake, one of the core emotions going on is helplessness: nothing you can do as the snake slowly swallows you down. Why on Earth would that be appealing?

Because it's a core element of the normal sexual experience. To have sex is to become, even for an instant, helpless. You have to drop all of your normal shields, undress, surrender yourself to another person, and take on an insane amount of risk for this ultimate pleasure. If we didn't have that little switch that gave us a desire to reach that point - utter helplessness - we'd be extinct. Helplessness removes the weight of responsibility from you.

In imagining yourself getting swallowed down by another creature - even forever - and feeling pleasure that way, you're demonstrating some mastery of that control: you can flip that switch and become helpless (in your imagination) when you need to.

The other thing that I think people with certain fetishes have mastered is a pair of skills: imagining your way out of a frightening or horrible situation by either separating the unpleasant elements, or just going along with it. In some ways this is the opposite of helplessness: this is you, asserting control over what scares you. You're willing to go on a roller coaster that a friend isn't ("it's too scary!"): you know that it's safe and you can channel that fear into excitement, where your friend doesn't have that ability.

I agree with those thoughts. It's a very good notion that BOTH PARTIES can feel exposed, vulnerable and helpless because of the intimacy in bed, no matter who's the top and who's the bottom. I guess the same goes to feelings of selfishness and desire to toy with selfish thoughts.

When you lust for people for their bodys' and appeals' sake in everyday life and make requests in bed, you can feel like your thoughts and requests are unforgivably, overwhelmingly selfish (although in relation to the partner's thoughts and desires it's possible that they're not that different (This of course is not neccessarily the case so good communication in bed, before and after is a must to make sure of this)). Sex requires certain amount of confidence, strong-willingness and 'selfishness' to communicate your boundaries, needs and desires in bed.

For me imagining myself as a pred in vore scenarios and getting better in touch with my pleasurable feelings of selfishness is good practice for situatios I need to pull some amount of selfishness out of my ass in bed. In the same way imagining myself in prey role in vore scenarios is good practice for enjoying that aforequoted nakedness and helplessness of intimacy but also for respecting partner's boundaries and wishes. I think that in addition to giving me pleasure, those fantasies give me perspective on helplessness and selfishness and help me explore their pros and cons in human existence. I become better in terms with both and they don't feel like uncontrollable forces in me.

I doubt we'll ever know.

My wife has a masters in counseling and bachelors in psychology. She's been with me over ten years now, known about my vore fetish within the first year of dating me.

She has no concrete theory about it, presented the fetish to her colleagues in her masters program as well.

It's highly based in power exchange mechanics but beyond that there isn't much of a clue how it is formed. We had the bizarre happenstance to have another in our college friend group to also have the fetish. We're from drastically different backgrounds. Not a lot of correlation beyond we are both highly introverted.

I'm convinced as well that it isn't worth solving. We're like this and that's it, end of story. Cope with it and make the most of your bizarre predilections. I've chosen to accept it and thrive. That said, no one else needs to know about it beyond my partner.

Answers are overrated and often times a disappointment. I'm content to just enjoy the ride.

Maybe it is in some cases, but I developed my interest as a very young age, when I don't think I even know what it meant to be lonely, so that can't apply to everyone.

Same here. I've always wondered if that factor contributes to it at all, like some innate desire to return to the womb.

In my case, I started when I was studying in preschool and my teacher was pregnant with twins, my colleague said her belly was so big because she had two children inside, in my head and had eaten the children, and one day when I bent down to pick up a pencil that fell on the floor unintentionally I ended up under her dress and ended up seeing more than I should, I still didn't understand what was happening but I felt really good, after that I had some dreams where situations happened with women and when I saw the MIB 2 film and saw the scene of vore I was sure that it was something different for me, I started to research until I reached the word vore and explore more of this fetish that I have.

For me it has been sexual since before I had any concept of sexuality. I think for as long as I can remember, maybe around age 4 - I have had an innate desire to be swallowed by a woman. At that point I didn't know anything about the human digestion system or anything like that, I just wanted to be inside. My earliest memories were of cartoons where it would happen - a female character eating something or someone - I would fixate on it. And like many others, Men in black 2 was my sort of awakening of all of it into something sexual. I was probably 7 or 8 when it came out, and I saw it in theaters and immediately felt some very intense feelings as well as some awkwardness. And when there was any mention of girls being better than boys when I was younger, I also felt very awkward and uncomfortable - I think I was being stimulated by that concept on a very deep level and had no clue what the feeling was.

As I grew older, my interest in vore developed into a very specific fetish, where I am primarily into motherly, mature, and dominant preds. And its very much a domination thing. There is something about a mature female pred consuming and digesting someone weaker than her that affects me on a primal level.

For a long time I hated how much vore turns me on. I've always wished that normal sex turned me on as much as vore did. Don't get me wrong I like sex, but sex rarely has fulfilled me in the same way that watching vore can. I've grown to like this because I can still maintain a healthy sex life and enjoy the benefits of romance, but I'm not a slave to needing sexual intimacy.

My first hint that I liked vore was in like, Kindergarten, where I drew a little stick figure girl with a triangular body (Because y'know, dress), and head of another stick figure inside her with a sassy caption. I'm pretty sure I got in trouble for it too.

I had no concept of anything related to sex or any sexual feelings until like, sometime in middle-school. I think back before then it was just especially hilarious to me, even if I didn't think about it as often.

And I was so late they had to induce labor. The loneliness escape could check out. I grew up in a rural area frequently without friends nearby. But very early I remember being fascinated by cartoons and pictures that had characters getting eaten. And I care more about the mouth part than the stomach.

I just want start off and say, I am not psychologist or do I know the exact science behind the cause of people liking vore. So everything what follows is my opinion or experience.

I think vorarephilia is caused by different wiring of the brain let me explain. I think we can define that there might be two categories of Vorarephils Type 1: These have liked vore from as long as they can remember. Type 2: They only had interest in it after a certain age. For myself I am a type 1 vorarephil I liked vore since I can remember, at first it was in a none sexual but later it became a attractive thing for me.

I thought about this for while like most of us have at a certain point. I have notices a few things here and there that some people have in common including myself. I do thing that (ASD, Autism spectrum disorder ) is way more prevalent here than in general population. My guess is, It just might be over 10% here compare that the normal 1/0.5% in general population. Off course this all varies depending on the way countries test on ASD. I also have ASD so I know somethings about it. The leading cause of the behaviorial differences of ASD is caused by a different way of processing information. That why some people with ASD can have it very hard in some situations (ASD can also created strong positive points). This lead me to have a conjecture that the rate of ASD is higher here and in the general pop.I want to share my following hypotheses.

This just to explain type 1 vorarephils.

(brain-wiring is mostly born it can't be changes)

Because of the brain wiring can be different even without causing ASD there is a possibility that some people develop at very you age a fascination for something in this case vore or better said things eating each other or things fitting into other things ect. I strongly believe that eating and sex are very connect in some way. Due to nature how we humans word describe stuff, Even stuff like kissing is good example for it (in my opinion). Kissing does not benefit us for reproduction so why do we do it? Again this just a feeling I have about it, just a opinion.

Because of those things I do think it's not that uncommon for people to develop this fetish or have this fetish from the start. Side note; I do think quite a bit of people here prefer vore over normal porn. This does also indicate that vore is main driver in interest. This can be a bit tricky for relationships I my opinion. I know that I've called vore a fetish and many people see it as one. But I do think that it goes way further than a fetish. I think you can compare it normal/sex and having a fetish. What do I mean with that? Imagine that you like just normal sex with one fetish (something random latex for example) I think vore is the same. Vore is the so called "normale sex" and the fetish can be whatever (Digestion av,ub, ect)

To get back at your struggle to accept you're self problem. There is no clear way to deal with it. I personally just don't think about to much as a issue. as long I am able to think straight about it does not effect me to much. I do strongly believe if someone is a type 1 vorarephil you won't be able to get rid of the fetish. It's like getting rid of being straight or homosexual, it will probably stay there forever.

agian this my take and opinion on it, so don't take this as certainty or factual knowledge.

I've done a deep dive into this myself, and I find the answer for me is actually simple, at least for those into it in a sexual context. It comes down to the vulnerability required of sexual intimacy. Its very much like BDSM, where there's a dynamic of power and powerlessness. Its why prey make very good submissives and preds are good doms, conjoining concepts like taunting and teasing of prey, and often the role reversals that come with it. Regardless they draw from the same core emotion evolved into human sexuality; vulnerability.

Sexuality, both in the natural world and in the realm of relationships, requires letting ones' guard down. In nature, most animals need to be able to trust that this partner A) isn't going to maul them and B) is going to be a good genetic match. In humans and relationships its a lot more complicated but comes from that root; a healthy relationship requires intimate vulnerability in the form of trust, safety, and comfort. That's why a lot of folks are naturally inclined to being in a submissive position. Obviously, humans are a lot more complicated than animals, and what for a tadpole was a simple on/off switch becomes a complicated emotional response from a human in the way of that sexual vulnerability, and because of its complexity that positive vulnerability can exist independent from raw trust-intimacy; the very feeling of being vulnerable is a trigger for a sexual high, as the concept of vulnerability becomes more dynamic as we develop socially as conscious beings.
There's of course also the other side of things (but take this with a grain of salt as I'm the exact opposite of a pred OR a dom) that some folks are also naturally inclined to enjoy being dominant. Sexual dominance again has its roots in the animalistic instincts, a sense of 'claim', but like submission develops overtime into protectiveness and, likewise, that desire to be trusted. This, again, as we develop as a society becomes its own abstract concept; power (again I don't know what it's like to be a pred, I can only assume it carries that sense of power-high).

Now come to sexual experimentation and developmental complexity, when we start to branch out into what "preferences" we have. Kinks, as they're so called. Here, for sexual vorarephiles, our "kink" is 'To Eat or Be Eaten', as those senses of vulnerability and power as derived into Dom/Sub tendencies develop into complex roles; predator and prey as they are, to most of us, the highest form of vulnerability and power; to be food for another being, or have another being as your food. The ultimate degradation. (And those branch into all the other roles in vore from Switch to Observer based on the mixture of each combined with other outside influences). Also....like......lowkey, vore is extremely easy to weave into other fetishes, amirite?
