Were you troubled by 'vore' as a child?
I'm fairly certain other people have mentioned this here and there, so it would be interesting to compare experiences.
As far back as I can remember, I was bothered by images or even mentions of people being eaten. I remember watching some Disney cartoon where a (sentient) mouse was about to be eaten by a bat; it bothered me so much that I left the room. The Pacman TV cartoons had a trailer where, at one point, a pacman falls off a truck into the mouth of a ghost (if I recall correctly), and I always turned my head away at that point.
It was the same with written mentions. I remember being very little and listening to my mother read me a story with man-eating hippos. I felt increasingly uncomfortable, and asked her to see how the story ended. It ended with the main bad guy being eaten by a hippo, so I asked her not to read it to me. Nor could I listen to (or, later, read) the end of Barrie's Peter Pan (for obvious reasons).
These things didn't just trouble me for a brief moment; they weighed on my mind for days, making me uncomfortable.
Little by little, my reactions became more ambiguous. I would pretend my toys were eating one another, or I would go down a slide and pretend it was a crocodile's gullet. And do it over and over again, while feeling slightly guilty and secretive. I remember being very excited on a school outing when several of us kids were play acting, and I was the fish that was caught for everyone's lunch. I secretly wanted to do it again when we'd finished.
Once I reached puberty, of course, the sexual fantasies started. I think I was 12 when I started having a recurring fantasy of being swallowed and digested by an attractive girl in my class.
Anyway... Was anyone else here deeply troubled and disturbed as a child by images and mentions of people being eaten?
I've heard people say that sexual fantasies are adaptations to childhood fears, but it wasn’t really a fear, and I’ve no idea how it started.

I completely relate to everything said here. Only when I was younger I had very sexual vore dreams as well, that I didn't understand.

I read a book once where a dragon hid himself as a human and went around eatng humans in modern time. (I was like 6 when i read it) It disterbed me so much that i'm afraid to fish out at sea because thats where he hunted. To this day, i don't like human vore in writing because of that.

Aware of vorish feelings? Yes. very much so.
Uncomfortable? No, never.
The idea of eating something/someone, and or watching someone being eaten, has always given me a sense of pleasure, although it didnt evolve into sexual pleasure until puberty.
The only thing that HAS ever made me uncomfortable with vore, then and now, is the idea of *ME* being prey.

I don't think I ever really got upset by vore when I was little, but then again I don't really remember getting really upset about much back then. But I do remember that it always made me feel funny. Not funny ha ha, either, funny like I had a tapeworm. It made my stomach twist in knots and stuff.

Re: Were you troubled by 'vore' as a child?
It never made me troubled, I would say it was much more like, intrigued... in fact I'm pretty sure I even liked it even as a child.
I can think of one clear example of it from my childhood. I remember one time in Kindergarten quite clearly where we were read a version of Little Red Riding Hood where the wolf wins (I have no idea why...) To this day I can still remember the last picture in the book where the wolf is just laying on his back with a giant belly. After that I'm not too sure, but I'm fairly certain that everyone around me was a bit disturbed, but I was thinking that it was the best version ever.
And as a side note, one time as a young kid I was dressed up for Halloween as a dinosaur, and I had a pillow on my belly to make it bulge.

Re: Were you troubled by 'vore' as a child?
I remember way back when I first saw Pagemaster, the dragon scene greatly disturbed me. But like almost everyone else here, as puberty came I started having those sexual fantasies of vore. As I prefer the observer position in vorish situations, my fantasies were of giant women swallowing people.
Why are you looking at me that way?

Since I was little I had sexy dreams of giantesses eating me (even anal vore lol). My still unaware dick was already getting hard, but I didn't know what it meant...I just loved the feeling. We can say I was born a pervert...a pervert with vore in his mind ^^'.

Re: Were you troubled by 'vore' as a child?
Yeah, same here. In fact, not much hasn't changed in the sense that I could handle some vore as a kid but there were just a few things that absolutely disturbed me to no end, just like there are some things in vore that, for some reasons I still can't seem to explain, really bother me to no end now.
There's two things that come to mind immediately. The first was the huge fish in Super Mario Bros. 3. I would always use the flutes to warp to the next level just so I wouldn't have to even so much as look at those.
The other was the lizard from Ferngully, or more precisely, the part where he eats the snail.
But I could sit through other vorish moments as a kid, so I have absolutely no clue why those stood out for me. Even Akira (which my dad let me watch because he was one of those idiots that thought all cartoons are just for kids) didn't bother me half as much as those two things did.
And, well. . . You know, to be honest, I still don't really care for them. There are still moments of vore that make me sick to my stomach just thinking about, but those two now get filed away in my list of "meh" vorish memories. I didn't adapt to them -- I just one day wound up discovering a form of vore that somehow did click with me (which can be seen here).

Interesting replies... Some of you seem to have had very similar experiences to mine, while for others it was very different. Some of us went from discomfort to pleasure, while others skipped the "discomfort phase", then.
Hmmm.
Not really sure what to make of it. :p

Re: Were you troubled by 'vore' as a child?
I went sorta halfway. It always seemed to scare/bother me when there was someone else with me but I used to delight in it on my own-Saturday morning cartoons, Roald Dahl/vorish poems/stories, anything that mentioned bellies/tummies. It was nearly always furries though, I never found it enjoyable to think about humans.
Werewolf for life, yo.

Re: Were you troubled by 'vore' as a child?
I can't remember I had such feelings as kid.
However, today I can get weird feelings when I imagine a woman being eaten by an animal/monster. For example, when I watch a movie with a woman on her way to be eaten by a monster, I can get a feeling that I don't want to see it, I just don't want that to happen. I can't explain why, it doesn't have with fear or sympathy to do.. the thought that her body soon will be digested and consumed, just sort of freaks me off, but at the same time it turns me on.
I only get those feelings when it's about women being eaten, if it's a woman eating another human/creature, or a monster/creature eating another monster/creature, I get no such feelings.
However, those feelings I get sometimes is not that strong that I *can't* watch it, it do still pleasure me.

vore freaked me out, even scared at some point,
it was like the ultimate taboo that must NEVER be talked about,
I even had to hide away certain movies with vorish moments from my sister (Pagemaster, Ferngully, Shrek) because I was afraid of being forced to watch them together with her :/
I think I was also 12 when I realized that the feelings vorish scenes caused in me were indeed of sexual origin,
but it never occured to me that it could be an actual existing fetish (I just thought I was insane )
until I accidently stumbled upon vore compilations on youtube a bit more than a year ago
And before I knew that it's called "vore", I used to refer to it as "prevy scenes",
cuz I always felt pervy when watching them
That's basically what I would have said except, I didn't turn away i did the oppisite I would look for anything that had vore since i was like 5. I found out about vore a few years ago when I saw a video that I also discovered my other fetish giantess. I then found watched this site for like a year and a half before joining.

Curiously, I've never been into furries. At all. I never even thought about them until I came here, and discovered that many people combine vore and furry. I much prefer human preds.
Is furry fandom something quite recent? I can't even remember it existing when I was in my teens and discovering my sexuality. Or maybe it just passed me by completely.

Well, it's the destruction of something beautiful and appealing. On a primal level, it's normal to react to that.

hmm I find it odd so many disliked it as a kid and now find themselves...well here!
I was never 'troubled' as you put it
I was, am and probably always will be, uncomfortable with it in public, I suspect my fear of being called out on it really, but I actually watch things with vore in like a porno and I have to mentally slap myself to not jump to another channel when someone else comes in

It was the same with me, i was actually terrified at vore as a child.Mostly in video games i used to always freakout at ''stomach'' themed levels.Like in zelda the 3rd dungeon the first time got the note bottle saying ruto was eaten i was already ready to shut off my n64 but when i actually walked into the area and saw how big that fish was i shut it off right away.i still dont like that dungeon today but its strange how we change over time.

I always liked vore, both in any media and in games I played, because I used to play a lot of something similar to D&D, and I played a dragon whenever I could because they could eat people, and I ate the enemies like all the time lol. Took me a while to realize it was sexual, but ya, it was always good to me.
